Founded in 2004, Soomo Learning is a growing web-based academic publishing company currently residing above bustling Pack Square in downtown Asheville, NC. We publish web-native, interactive learning resources developed by our editorial team, and augment and web-enable content from other publishers too. As the work ahead of us grows, it's time to add some members to our small, close-knit development team! We are all passionate about transformative learning and enjoy working at an organization which allows us to develop excellent learning resources and provide exceptional service. We are on the second and third floors of a 100-year-old building on the main square in downtown Asheville, NC. Support Specialist

Soomo is looking for the right person to add to our legendary customer-support team. Known for our calm, confident manner, Soomo's Help Desk takes the chaos out of students' lives one call or email at a time. You are the ideal candidate if you enjoy helping others and have a special knack for explaining technology in clear terms that can be easily understood by almost anyone. 

Support Specialists function as advocates for students and instructors who use our web-native, interactive textbooks in their college courses. Support responsibilities include responding to help requests by phone or online, documenting problems and how they are resolved, and coordinating with Technology and Editorial teams to get students the help they need to complete their assigned work.

We want someone who:

  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills, especially on the phone
  • Is comfortable asking questions and collecting new information
  • Can explain tasks clearly and simply
  • Has experience solving customer problems
  • Stays calm and professional under pressure
  • Is proficient using basic computer software such as MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Powerpoint (or Mac equivalents)
  • Has experience working remotely

Additional details:

  • Afternoon shift schedule, ending at 9pm including weekends

Position Requirements

This is a full-time position in a small, collegial company.  Candidates must be detail and methodical-minded individuals who enjoy learning.

Location: Our downtown office located in a 100-year-old building right on Pack Square in Asheville, North Carolina

Minimum Education Required: Has earned a bachelor's degree, preferably in communications, social sciences, or humanities

Starting hourly: Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience
