Founded in 2004, Soomo Learning is a growing web-based academic publishing company currently residing above bustling Pack Square in downtown Asheville, NC. We publish web-native, interactive learning resources developed by our editorial team, and augment and web-enable content from other publishers too. As the work ahead of us grows, it's time to add some members to our small, close-knit development team! We are all passionate about transformative learning and enjoy working at an organization which allows us to develop excellent learning resources and provide exceptional service. We strive to keep all of our processes lean, test-driven, and rapidly iterating based on real-world use.

Our Offices

We are on the second and third floors of a 100-year-old building on the main square in downtown Asheville, NC. Asheville is a remarkable city known for mountain biking, live music, whitewater, buskers, amazing food, local brews, crafted chocolate, organic everythingcrafts, and affordable, hip living

The following position is currently available with Soomo:

Custom Development Coordinator

This Position is Responsible For:
  • Managing the editing, production, and publication of college learning resources on the Soomo Platform
  • Scheduling the timing of course updates and working with the school to make sure that students are appropriately notified of changes
  • Working with the Director of Sales to uncover additional course opportunities
  • Editing webtext content, including text, tables, charts, figures, and embedded video to ensure clarity, accuracy, readability, and integrity of content while maintaining conformity to Soomo editorial policies, accessibility standards, and required style standards such as APA and Chicago
  • Proofing and participating in other content checks to ensure quality and integrity of webtext prior to publication

Because we create and support web applications, we use numerous apps in our development process, and a certain amount of familiarity with modern web technology is assumed. 

Position Requirements

This is an mid-level, full-time position in a small, collegial company. Because we are still nimble and constantly innovating, our daily work varies and we are learning more every semester about how to better support students. The one thing that doesn’t change is our commitment to radically improving the college course experience for tens of thousands of students each year.

Location:  Our downtown office located in a 100-year-old building right on Pack Square in Asheville, North Carolina

Minimum Education:  Bachelor's degree required

Minimum Experience:  Prior experience managing multiple projects is a must

Starting Salary:  Commensurate with experience

  • Ability to take ownership of a program and communicate with the client and internal teams
  • Ability to think critically about tasks and make recommendations that improve the student experience
  • Strong copyediting skills with experience conforming to editorial and style standards
  • Demonstrated ability to produce error-free work in fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong technical skills using software such as Word, Pages, and Excel and some familiarity with HTML
  • A willingness to learn new technologies and incorporate new skills and knowledge into daily work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A willingness to ask questions
